Event Description

An evening of traditional Irish, Scottish and English folk ballads and tales about love lost and love found, spanning five centuries. Come on a journey with the Mistress of Folk herself, Bronwyn Claire Asha, as she takes us across five centuries of love songs from the Celtic and English folk traditions.
Love lost, love found, love betrayed: these are themes that can be found in the earliest songs known to humankind. We have all loved and lost, and what a better time of year to gather together to connect with the songs of the past in an evening of music and storytelling. In this live musical performance, Bronwyn Claire Asha presents a collection of Irish, Scottish and English folk songs on the subject of women over the centuries and those they have loved and lost as part of her debut album release tour. She will also perform two stories from the Celtic tradition: The Fairy Lover, an old folk tale from the Isle of Lewis in Scotland and a story called "The Devil's Violin" from the Irish Traveller tradition.

Bronwyn Claire Asha is a multi-instrumental folk artist and performer originating from Bowen Island, Canada. She began her training at the age of 4 in classical violin, completing Royal Conservatory diplomas while playing rip-roaring fiddle tunes and singing folk ballads since early childhood. She has toured internationally as the fronts-woman of the high-energy Celtic folk group Knacker’s Yard and recently returned from a four month stint in Europe where she was touring with the acclaimed Scottish singer/songwriter Simon Kempston.
Bronwyn’s solo work breathes new life into the traditional folk ballad genre, and her unique arrangements of traditional and original songs on fiddle, vocals, guitar, banjo and harmonium create a sound that feels both elemental and ancient. Her live performances combine storytelling and history for a listening experience that is engaging, powerful and not to be missed.
