The Balkan Babes celebrate the Winter Solstice, the shortest day of the year, with an intimate concert at the Orange Hall. The astromical event known as Winter Solstice, also known as Midwinter or Yule, occurs this year on December 21st and is marked as a time of rebirth. Recognized for centuries by virtually every civilization from the Romans to the Celts, its celebration varies but generally includes gathering with loved ones, singing, feasting and a fire in the hearth.
The "Babes' are a Victoria-based, 11 voice choir, specializing in accapella, traditional folk repertoire from the Czech Republic, Serbia, Croatia, Bulgaria and beyond. In April they won the 2008 CBC Radio 2 Award for Best Pan-cultural Traditions Choir and as a result, were part of a showcase concert featuring some of Canada's best choirs.
For physical events that happen at a specific time. For example a concert, or dance performance. If there are multiple shows, you can still duplicate your event to cover them all.
