Event Description
CABARET 2009 : "THE DREAM OF ROMANCE"
3 SHOWS: JANUARY 31, FEBRUARY 7 and 14.
A live show of romantic classics and favorites with a Latin theme. Sung in French, Italian, English and Portuguese. Open seating.
After the huge success of the FRENCH CABARET (3 sold-out shows at Little Fernwood Hall in November 2007), we offer a new show of romantic and popular songs with a strong Latin flavor: favorites such as "C'est si bon", "Les feuilles mortes", "La fille d'Ipanema", "O Sole mio", "Sway", "Volare"; songs by Georges Moustaki, Francis Cabrel, Jobim, Abba, plus an opera aria from Puccini's La Bohême, a fado song by Amalia Rodrigues, tangos, and much more. Singalongs included.
The venue is the new theatre located at 637 Head Street in Esquimalt, just off Esquimalt Road. This "black box" medium-size type of theatre is arguably the best venue in town for this kind of show. There is plenty of easy, free and safe parking right at the theatre and the outstanding design includes some of the best handicap access. The theatre is adjacent to the new Victor Brodeur French School.
The cast is made of some of the finest local musicians: Martina HAAKENSTAD, the classically trained soprano with a voice of gold; Nick FAIRBANK, our keyboardist-with-a-punch and composer; David MAZOFF, our expert Latin accordionist, better known on stage as Dr. D; Réjean BUSSIÈRES with his exquisite guitar and voice harmonies and solos; Dan SPILLER, our last-but-not-least splendid tenor. With special guest artist Juno-nominated Adonis PUENTES of the PUENTES BROTHERS.
Tickets are $20 only. (students: $15 university/$10 school).
