As part of its ongoing Northwest Baroque Masterworks Project, Early Music Society of the Islands, with Christ Church Cathedral, present the Pacific Baroque Orchestra and Grammy award-winning soprano Amanda Forsythe in Handel and His Rivals on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at 8pm at Christ Church Cathedral. “Possessed of astounding technique, deep musicality, and undeniable charm,”(Opera News), American lyric soprano Amanda Forsythe will perform wildly virtuosic operatic arias by Handel, as well as by Porpora, Hasse, and Veracini – all talented composers from London’s “Opera of the Nobility” who briefly put Handel out of business. Accompanying Forsythe and offering instrumental works from the era is the Juno-nominated Pacific Baroque Orchestra, led by Vancouver’s own beloved conductor Alexander Weimann.
