An Industrial Arts Community of Artists and Makers
Open / Operational
Event Description
Tucked in among the recycling depots just east of the Bay Street Bridge, a nondescript, three-story building buzzes daily with creative activity. Here, First Nations artists carve modern versions of traditional masks, painters daub oil and acrylic on canvas, leather crafters sew belts and bags.
On November 18 and 19, nearly twenty artists and makers at Rock Bay Square—from furniture makers to jewelers, to makers of re-usable bees wax food wrap—are opening their studio doors to the public, just in time for the holiday season.
They invite you to come and join the conviviality, ask them questions about their craft, and watch them in action. Who knows? Perhaps Rock Bay Square is where you’ll find that unique gift—for yourself or someone else. (Please bring cash or cheques as not all of the artists/artisans are set-up for credit or debit.)
The Open House will run from 4 to 8pm on Friday, November 18, and from 12 to 4pm on Saturday, November 19.
There will be food to nibble and beverages to sip.
Originally built in the 1920s, Rock Bay Square began as part of a mill, and boasts one of Victoria’s oldest freight elevators. It is located at 2614 Bridge Street (between John St. and Hillside Ave.) Free one-hour parking is available on the surrounding streets. Buses 10 and 14 stop nearby.
For physical events that happen at a specific time. For example a concert, or dance performance. If there are multiple shows, you can still duplicate your event to cover them all.
