The Spiral Café’s Big Open Mike Band grew from the roots of a seed planted in 2002 when Big Mike Raymer as new co-owner of The Spiral started attending Thursday nights at the coffee shop to host a community-friendly open mic. Today, The Big Open Mike Band (aka The B.O.M.B) is composed of a group of talented regulars who love the Spiral Café, several of them having played together for close to ten years while backing up performers on Open Mic Thursdays.
Tonight’s version of the band consists of host and singer/songwriter/guitarist Tim Black, bassist Mark Johnson, keyboardist Phil Newton, harmony singer Joy Kruger, and fiddler Josh Miszczak. There’ll be plenty of harmonies and passing of the baton in leading songs, so it will be an over-the-top tuneful night featuring energetic originals, a few covers, a few stories, and LOTS of musicality from all members of the band. It’s definitely going to be a night to remember!!
